Introduction

Today’s labor market demands individuals with high personal productivity who are able to lead groups and achieve superior results.

For this reason, FUCAPE Business School, acknowledged as the best institution of higher learning in the state of Espírito Santo and the eighth best in the country according to the Ministry of Education, presents the MBA in Leadership and Human Development.

The course was conceived to promote holistic human development in terms of intra and interpersonal competencies, to prepare professionals to exercise leadership and to understand the individual and group behavior within organizations.

Presentation

Leadership is the process of influencing people to act efficiently to achieve a common objective. Training a person who can exert this influence is a task that involves continuing effort over the long term. There are no instant recipes.

When we say leadership is a process, we stress the idea that it is not an inherent attribute that a person either does or does not have. It is developed, and makes a person able to build, through a process of interaction, a condition of trust that is the base for exercising interpersonal influence.

Leadership is a social phenomenon, involving interactions between people. Influencing people therefore involves not only the social role of the leader, but also the choices of the led.

A leader is someone focused on action. Leadership involves realization and reflection on the capability of transforming a vision into reality. It is a practical rather than merely discursive phenomenon.

To lead is to strive for efficiency in the effort to reach a common goal. Therefore, it requires providing a vision to the group and to support it so that the members can attain satisfactory results, without wasting resources.

Differential

The courses available in the market to promote human development and leadership generally have short duration and cover isolated topics.

The main differential of this course is the integration of the disciplines in a logical and progressive sequence, which enables students to understand and develop their individual potential and leadership skills.

It is an essential course not only for a successful career, but also for a more balanced life.

• Professionals with varied backgrounds who want to develop competencies for leadership and human development;

• Entrepreneurs who want to achieve better personal efficiency and skills to influence people;

• Small, medium and large organizations that need to form leaders and increase personal efficacy and the ability to lead teams of employees.

The labor market, increasingly competitive, requires professionals to develop their talents to enable them to reach their individual potential and to lead groups of people to achieve competitive results.

In the past, having satisfactory technical knowledge was considered sufficient for managers to succeed. Leadership was seen as a question of hierarchy, resulting from the formal structure of the organization.

Nowadays, in the knowledge era, these technical requirements are still important, but not sufficient to have a successful management career. Leadership is increasingly seen as a competency that permits professionals with high levels of specific knowledge in their areas to influence other people and elicit superior collective results.

For this reason, being or becoming a leader requires self-development and learning to relate to others, regardless of the profession exercised. Although many are born with this characteristic, study and training can enable all people to develop leadership attributes, becoming more complete and valued professionals in the job market.
